Is it 1929 or 2008?

Paul Krugman from the New York Times in this article draws some disturbing parallels between our situation now and the situation in 1929 to 1933.
Then, it was a run on the commercial banks that caused most of the problem. Now it’s a “run” on the investment banks (the Bear Stears etc.) as people are pulling their money out of those types of investments and putting them into Treasuries.
Not a pretty scenario. I hope he’s wrong, but I think we need to plan towards him not being wrong.
He says he hopes that Mr. Bernanke and his cohorts at the Fed are trying to avoid that. Here’s to their success……
