WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) – Orders for U.S.-made durable goods sank in August, falling 4.5% on weaker demand for a broad range of goods, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. Excluding the 8.9% decrease in transportation goods, orders fell 3.0%, the sharpest drop in nineteen months. The decrease exceeded the expected 2.0% fall forecast by economists surveyed by MarketWatch. It was the largest drop in total orders since January. The report was weak across the board.
