Jumbo Loans – why they are hard to get…..

David Faber from CNBC has a good report on the performance of jumbo loans.   A couple of things that this shows:

  • The reason that jumbo loans are so hard to fund on the secondary market is because the performance of current portfolios of jumbo loans is not good.
  • The reason that we’re seeing more and more of the housing trouble creeping into the higher priced markets is because funding for those price ranges is much harder to get.   Larger down payments, higher credit scores, lower debt ratios are a return to common sense lending but those who already have jumbo loans are finding it harder to get “out of” the loans they currently have.
